Position: Group Corporate Controller
Location: Amherstburg
Job Description: The Gemus Group of companies are in search of a Corporate Controller. The successful candidate will manage the financial division of the Gemus Group of companies which include: The Dan Gemus Real Estate Team Ltd., Gemus Holdings Ltd., Gemus Homes Ltd., Duby’s Home Centre Ltd., and Goldmar Property Management Ltd.
Job Purpose: As an integral part of the senior management team, the Corporate Controller is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, directing and evaluating the financial concerns and performance of the organizations in alignment with the strategic directions of the companies.
The scope of this role includes but is not limited to managing the accounting systems, the annual budget processes and external audits, supervising accounting and ensuring that the company-wide computer systems and office technologies effectively support the operations of the entire Group of companies.

Responsibilities and Duties
Accounting
- Directs all aspects of Finance and accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, corporate accounting, financial planning, costing, budgeting, asset management, taxation and treasury
- Leads finance team, setting annual goals and cross-training of team members as required, ensuring departmental goals align with overall corporate goals and strategies
- Prepare and reviews monthly and annual financial statements and discuss with the senior executives
- Ensures that all statutory reports (corporate tax returns, GST returns, WSIB and EHT returns, Statistical Reports) are prepared and submitted prior to the deadlines
- Coordinates the year end audit and supervises the preparation of the account analyses required by auditors.
- Establishes and implements accounting procedures and policies, ensuring that the Companies are compliant with all new and existing accounting standards
- Maintain accurate product costing and inventory control
- Develops, implements and ensures compliance with internal controls over financial reporting and cash disbursements
Treasury and Taxation
- Reviews the cash position of the Companies, including the line of credit and transfers between the bank accounts, and arranges for additional financing as required.
- Develop and maintain local banking and financing relationships to ensure the companies are well positioned for funding opportunities
- Make strategic cash investment decisions to secure adequate return
- Presents recommendations on issue resolution, tax planning, and other financial issues, as required
Planning and Budgeting
- Participate in short and long term strategic and tactical planning and initiatives to ensure that the financial needs of the organizations are met
- Oversees the preparation of annual budgets
- Monitor the projected financial performance, cash flow and balance sheets based on the operating budgets
Management Support and Acquisitions
- Acts as a technical expert for the Companies, partnering with operational managers to provide guidance and decisions on accounting treatment for various issues
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with operational managers and directors to achieve organizational goals
- Provide assistance in new acquisitions, joint ventures and with due diligence.
Qualifications Experience and skills:
Education: University degree and a professional accounting designation such as CPA, CA, CMA or CGA required. Candidates with MBA from well known institute will be preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of relevant financial experience
Knowledge: Inventory/cost accounting, computer technology, networks and systems
Competencies: A hands-on financial professional with strong analytical skills and presentation skills, attention to detail, integrity and dependability. Proven ability to train, motivate and lead staff.
